Today we’re announcing that Robusta is joining Freshworks.
We started Robusta in 2021 to help engineers figure out faster why production is broken. The first version of Robusta focused on Kubernetes and worked very well there, so we began looking for ways to generalize it to every kind of production issue.
Then LLMs arrived, and we decided to bet the company on Agentic AI. The decision looks obvious now, but it was far from obvious at the time! Back then, models were unreliable and tended to hallucinate details. But we saw the exponential curve of LLM improvements and correctly believed that accuracy problems would shrink dramatically as LLMs became more powerful. So we rebuilt the platform from the ground up as an AI Agent, HolmesGPT.
As LLMs got better - and as we improved our AI harness - the results became remarkably accurate, just as we’d predicted. Customers sometimes told us an investigation was wrong because it didn’t match what they expected, only to come back a few hours later and say it was right. It soon became clear that even the hardest incidents would be solvable in the future by AI.
But a new problem arose: for enterprise customers, running AI investigations on every alert was too expensive. For most customers, it was worth the cost on critical incidents, but not on the long tail of low-priority alerts. Yet skipping those meant missing early warning signs. So we invested heavily here and figured out how to investigate large volumes of alerts with non-linear token costs, all while maintaining the same level of accuracy in investigations.
While this was happening, Freshworks reached out to us. From our very first conversations, it was obvious that they were building toward the same future as us. They saw not only the same challenges, but also the same generational opportunity in front of us that we saw. The more we spoke, the more we realized that we could reach our goal of proactive, self-healing production systems faster by joining them than by continuing alone.
So we have decided to join Freshworks and accelerate that vision! Over the past few months, Arik and I have spent a lot of time with the Freshworks team and couldn’t be more excited about the future our teams will be building together.
In practice, little changes today. We’ll keep growing our team (p.s. we’re hiring: home.robusta.dev/careers) and release new product capabilities even faster than ever. What does change? The scope of what we can build. As part of Freshworks, we’ll have even more resources to execute on our joint vision. We’re super excited about this and will share more details in the future.
